During #BlackAugust, [STATE TABLE] recognizes the work, leadership, and sacrifice of Black freedom fighters and political prisoners. Building on the teachings of leaders like Angela Davis, Fred Hampton, and Assata Shakur, new generations of freedom fighters like Erica Garner and Anneshia Hardy of @Alabama Values are continuing the fight for liberation. They’ve taught us that we can’t reach liberation without a deep commitment to organizing, bringing our communities together, and making sure we’ve got each other’s backs. See how we’re continuing their tradition: [STATE TABLE WEBSITE] [Image Description: Four graphics. The first is a graphic with a black and white photo from the seventies of a crowd of people holding up fists. There’s text repeating in the background behind the image that says “Black August.” Overlaid on the photo is a blue text box with white font that says “Honoring Black Freedom Fighters.” The second is a graphic with a black and white photo of Assata Shakur smiling. In the upper right hand corner, a quote reads “‘It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains,’ by Assata Shakur.” The third is a graphic with a black and white photo of Anneshia Hardy smiling. In the upper right hand corner, a quote reads “‘When we tell the story, we reclaim the narrative. We center the truth. We remind folks that our lives, our joy, our struggle, and our brilliance can’t be flattened or erased,’ by Anneshia Hardy.” The last is a graphic with a black and white photo of Angela Davis resting her head on her first. In the upper right hand corner, a quote reads “‘You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time,’ by Angela Davis.”]
