On America's 250th birthday, we take the time to recognize that this country was founded on democracy and rights for the few. But we envision a true multi-racial democracy and fight for the promise of what America could be.
That promise has always required people willing to fight for it. Every expansion of freedom in this country's history came because ordinary people refused to accept the gap between America's ideals and its reality.
Inequities aren't history — they are present today, in voting restrictions and gerrymandered maps drawn to silence Black and brown communities. In Supreme Court decisions that have rolled back reproductive rights and other hard-won protections. In unequal access to healthcare, quality education, economic opportunity and the freedom to simply live safely.
For many Americans, the freedom this day celebrates has never been fully extended to them. 250 years in, and the work isn't done. We remain committed to fighting until everyone is truly free to live and thrive. Learn how you can get involved in fighting for freedom at [LINK].
